N.B. nurses avoid strike with tentative deal

The New Brunswick government and the province’s 5,500 nurses have reached a tentative deal, avoiding a possible provincewide strike.
Marilyn Quinn, president of the New Brunswick Nurses Union, said the tentative agreement was struck at 1 a.m. Monday.
The two sides have agreed to withhold specifics of the new contract until a ratification vote is completed, which is expected in the next few weeks.

Alberta reaches tentative deal with doctors

The federal government will drop its controversial plan to eliminate political party subsidies that are based on the number of votes received during elections, CBC News has learned.
Troops began searching through Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Hotel on Saturday after a raid by Indian commandos killed the last three gunmen who had been barricaded inside the building.
